Flat illustrations is a very deceptive thing. Because it's stripped back, clean and two dimensional the mis-conception is that it's easy to create, have you tried it? Keeping things simple is harder than you think.

Luis Mendo
Luis Mendo’s journey to becoming an illustrator, is perhaps not the typical tale. After a successful 20-year career as an Art Director and magazine designer, relocating from Amsterdam to Tokyo, a change of scenery brought with it a change in career and he began to explore illustration. Describing his work as ‘digital analog’, the term alludes to its inherent tactile nature and warmth. His images often evoke positivity and exude a cheerful nature. Luis Mendo works as a commercial and is represented by Handsome Frank.

Molly McCammon is an illustrator hailing from Dundee, Scotland. Hugely inspired by mid-century design and printing methods, Molly’s work utilises texture and simplicity with structure and geometry. Her process always begins with a pencil. Working by hand initially to get all the “bad ideas” out on paper, before taking the good stuff to Procreate. Flat layers of colour are then used to recreate the traditional screen-printing methods of the 50's and 60's picture books and advertising campaigns that she loves. Represented by Handsome Frank.

Flat illustration is a very deceptive thing. Because it's stripped back, clean and two-dimensional, the mis-conception is that it's easy to create, but have you tried? Keeping things simple is harder than you think. Stephen is amongst the very finest illustrators in this field and the secret is in what he takes away, not what he adds. A master of minimalism if you will. Represented by Handsome Frank.

Tim McDonagh
Despite working with Tim for more than a decade, the insane detail in his work still blows us away. How does he pack so much in? Inspired by old comics, gig posters and tattoos, the depth in Tim's work is truly mesmerising.
An old school draftsmen, Tim starts with a detailed pencil draft, which he then hand inks with a paint brush. He'll then scan the finished drawing and apply the colour digitally. It's this combination of traditional and modernity that really makes his work pop. Represented by Handsome Frank.

Yo Hosoyamada
Yo is a London based illustrator who describes her works as emotive, dynamic and immersive. Having lost ourselves daydreaming about inhabiting her compositions, we couldn’t agree with that description more. Her works start life as pencil thumbnail sketches, switching to Photoshop once she has nailed the composition. Colour is added next, to flesh out the line work and once that’s locked-in she works it all up in Photoshop adding texture and grain. Yo Hosoyamada works as a commercial artist and is represented by Handsome Frank.
